Documentary centred on the Italian island of Lampedusa where 6,000 Sicilians are joined by hundreds of desperate migrants who arrive on their shores every week during the European migrant crisis.

The film focuses on some of the island’s native inhabitants, including a 12-year-boy and his family of fishermen, and shows how their daily lives are affected by the arrival of migrants to their shores.

The migrants’ journey is also chronicled as they risk their lives fleeing Africa and the Middle East in search of a better life in Europe.

The ones who are lucky enough to survive recount the stories of their perilous journeys across the Mediterranean and the deadly conflicts they have left behind.
