Frida Kahlo lived in San Francisco from 1930-31, and here she was treated by the pioneering doctor Leo Eloesser for her chronic medical problems resulting from a serious bus accident as a young woman. They became lifelong friends and to her dear ‘doctorcito’, she dedicated this portrait.
