Maggi’s Mag is a collaboration between Middle Plane magazine and British artist Maggi Hambling creating a dialogue between art and fashion. The issue reads as a visual interview of photo-series’ presented in a non-linear format that shed light on Maggi’s personality in varied ways – at times intimidating and confrontational, at others generous and humorous.
From drawing on her vices and behaviours to exploring the unusual juxtaposition of fashion and art, the editorials include a series of intimate photographs of Maggi shot by Juergen Teller, cinematic stills by Sam Rock inspired by her love of the sea, a series by Paul Kooiker that draws on the artist’s penchant for meringues and a study from by Isabelle Wenzel inspired by Maggi’s life drawings.
In this issue:
The twelfth issue features conversations between Danh Võ and Juergen Teller, Luc Tuymans and Hans Ulrich Obrist, and Catherine Opie and Gillian Wearing, interspersed with playful fashion editorials—blending ornate clothing with urban settings—photographed by Oliver Hadlee Pearch, Martín Sabino, Tess Petronio, Alasdair McLellan, Julie Greve, Mark Kean and more.
Plus, a 24-page surreal visual insert from artist Mark Leckey, titled ‘Nabuchodonosor and the Lathe of Heaven’.
