Overseas, Issue 3

Overseas is a premium editorial publication aiming to document the influence of basketball on different identities and cultures across Europe, and beyond. We travel to celebrate unusual destinations and we connect with people to share new perspectives. Every story we narrate manifests an undisputed curiosity for the Game and the culture that deeply surrounds it.

Each of our focuses starts from the assumption that the Game is not limited to the court. Overseas basketball is a platform to discover societies, people, ideas. It’s a poem to be praised in the most disparate languages, it’s a historical, political and emotional wave to be deeply investigated.

The waves continue their journey. The third chapter of our basketball quest leads us to distant and uncharted shores, showing you once again the fascinating osmosis between James Naismith’s Game and social, artistic and historical dimensions. Overseas’ tide has never been so enchanting.

The World Cup has unleashed endless basketball nuances. From the Philippine basketball Atlantis to the formative romance of the South Sudanese national team: Manila as a starting point, Juba, the Olympics and the unity of a long-wounded country as the finish line. In between you can find an itinerary that passes through the throbbing London and UK basketball cosmos and the decadent, eternal beauty of the Roman movement. An Adriatic away we discover the layered Dalmatian tradition and visit the Turkish capital, Ankara, where the contemporary Game rhymes with a glorious past. A focus on the atypical, yet eclectic Lisbon derby and the Digest art series are the final pieces of our global basketball mosaic.

For this special occasion, we also created a zine in collaboration with Nike Basketball. Only Basketball is the sublimation of the unlimited ramifications and capabilities of the Game. It’s an ode to its multifaceted potential, and to our founding philosophy: Equal Hoops, Distinctive Cultures. This is our special gift to those who believe in the complexity of basketball. Just like us.
