HISTORIENS BÄSTA POLITISKA FILM FYLLER 50 ÅR!
1954 inleder Algeriska befrielsefronten en revolt mot landets franska styre. Upproret övergår i ett fullskaligt krig som utkämpas på Algers gator och torg. Terrorism och tortyr blir vardagliga vapen i den blodiga kamp som slutligen resulterar i Algeriets självständighetsförklaring 1962.
Med en grovkornig journalfilmsestetik porträtterar Gillo Pontecorvo kriget med skrämmande autenticitet, vilket fått många att utse Slaget om Alger till historiens bästa politiska film. En av dess många beundrare är Jan Guillou, som i TVs Filmkrönikan för tio år sedan berättade att det var den bästa film han någonsin sett.
Slaget om Alger vann Guldlejonet i Venedig och Oscarnominerades för Bästa utländska Film, Bästa regi och Bästa originalmanus.
I år fyller denna odödliga klassiker 50 år, vilket bland annat kommer uppmärksammas på filmens hemmaplan under filmfestivalen i Venedig.
