Meanwhile, the real achievements—surviving a meeting that should’ve been an email, finding a clean mug in a communal kitchen, or successfully brewing something drinkable the morning after a night out—pass unmarked and underappreciated.

Coffee, in all its glorious mundanity, gives us permission to mark the moment. It’s a ritual both humble and heroic—a way of saying, ‘Yes, the world is slightly mad, but here I am, standing upright, shoulders chucked back and chest puffed out, with coffee and purpose.’ It invites us to pause, to savour, and to look life in the eye before we hurtle on.
