The Face of Beauty

The Face of Beauty is a photo book about the many beautiful faces created by fashion photographer Mikael Schulz and makeup artist Viktoria Sörensdotter.

What is beauty? That’s what Mikael Schulz and Viktoria Sörensdotter began to explore when making the book The Face of Beauty. Ever since they met behind the camera fifteen years ago, they have been sharing the same vision in fashion photography.

“Two years ago, we began discussing how we could capture the spirit of our creative partnership on our own terms, without limits – and this book is the result,” says Mikael Schulz.
The Face of Beauty is about playful, artistic and interesting images that reflect Mikael and Viktoria’s vision of beauty and the joy they feel working together. The book features some of the best models in the fashion industry and has specifically been chosen to fit their vision of the project.

“We are so proud and honoured to have worked with the models in this book, all of whom lent their time and beauty to us, and gamely sat through countless makeup changes,” says Viktoria Sörensdotter.

Mikael Schulz first picked up a camera as a high school student in Gothenburg, Sweden. After attending art and photography school there, he moved to New York City to study at the International Center of Photography and began his career as a fashion photographer. His editorial work has graced the covers and pages of international editions of Allure, Elle, Costume, Harper’s Bazaar and Vogue.

Viktoria Sörensdotter started her career as a hairdresser in the Swedish town of Härnösand before heading to Stockholm to study makeup design. She then moved to Paris, working as a makeup artist for Givenchy, among other fashion clients. Today she is an ambassador for YSL Beauté and works with editorial and commercial clients such as Bon, Costume, Elle Sweden, H&M and Tommy Hilfiger.
