A hybrid between a book and a magazine, the new Acne Paper has been reimagined with a new format and bold design direction: expanding to 500 pages, a revised size format and a cover that unfolds into a poster; in keeping with its legacy as a collector’s item.
In this issue:
The new issue of Acne Paper is created around the idea of a house with a fantasy collection of furniture, art and objects. To furnish our imaginary house we have been searching through time and place for the unique: from the most interesting pieces by contemporary designers, to iconic items in the history of decorative arts, from surreal objets d’art, to ancient antiques and invaluable masterworks.
The house has nine rooms and a garden: ten chapters which features a photographic story by some of the most exciting image makers of today. Behind every door there is also a conversation, an informal interview with ten remarkable people from the world of art, design, architecture, performance, literature and interiors.
Not unlike the ballroom scene of the houses of New York and the stage performances of the opera houses of the world, there is a great sense of theatre under our roof. Each room of the house is brimming with talent, knowledge, ideas and creative exchange.
There are 151 objects in our collection. Among them are wall-hangings by El Anatsui, Peter Collingwood and Hiva Alizadeh, paintings by Chris O li, Francis Picabia and Jacques-Émile Blanche, chairs by Philippe Malouin, Shigeru Uchida and Hannah Levy, tables by Faye Toogood, Hervé Van der Straeten, Joseph Walsh and Rick Owens, cutlery by Salvador Dalí, and an 18k gold toilet by Maurizio Cattelan, to name but a very few. Each object is illuminated by a scholarly caption in the style of a collectable auction catalogue.
On the cover: the house itself – an artwork by Pablo Bronstein. It is an Art Deco villa adorned with a blue celestial temple, anked by two elegant Pierrot gures. On the back cover we see someone (the lady of the manor?) having fun upstairs while Pierrot bores Columbine with a detailed description of an elaborate doorframe facing the garden.
