Elska is a bi-monthly male photography and culture art-zine on 130 pages of beautifully stroke-able matte paper. Each issue is shot in a different city with men from that city, including not only their photographs but their stories too. It’s a sort of cross between a quasi-intellectual queer pin-up and a sort of sexy anthropology journal.
In this issue:
Welcome to our double-volume forty-seventh issue, made in Munich. This marks our second time in Germany, and our second time releasing two separate volumes for one city — we simply couldn’t fit everything into one mag, so we had to give you two!
Inside this set you’ll get to know seventeen ordinary local Munich men. We shot them in their city’s streets and in their homes, letting you get to know them through our natural and intimate style of photography. Then, you’ll get even closer with the addition personal stories, written by each of the men on any topic of their choosing.
Some of the stories you’ll read here include: Dat N’s plea to treat older gays with dignity, set in a gay sauna where such men become invisible or even the object of disgust; Jan G’s discovery of ballroom and rugby and how these discoveries helped him discover himself; Luis A G P’s look back at a hard childhood and the realisation that he doesn’t need to forgive those who hurt him; and Lukas G’s reflection on why he decided to do this photoshoot for Elska.
‘Elska Munich’ features sixteen chapters spread over two separate volumes. These chapters are dedicated to the following local participants: Dat N, Luis A G P, Lukas G, Thomas F, Dmytro S, Dario P, Steini S, Alonso N Q, Oleg G, Timothy H, Flavio A, Lukas M, Micha P, Jan G, Christoph H, Filip S, and Jakob P.
We also recommend ordering the companion zine ‘Elska Ekstra Munich’, available separately or as part of the ‘Bundle’, to get more exclusive content. This includes outtakes and behind the scenes tales regarding some of our favourite Munich lads. Also featured are three more subjects for whom there wasn’t room in the main mag, namely Arnau R, Eden H, and Charlie/Sakura.
Details and Specs:
Each volume of ‘Elska Munich’ is 164 pages, 170mm x 240mm (approx 6.7 x 9.4 in), full colour, sewn-bound, offset-printed, with 280gsm (110lb) textured coated coverage paper and flaps that hide a couple Easter eggs. One random Elska Collectors’ Postcard is inserted inside.
