This year Coco had her best-ever Wimbledon, and last week reached the semi-finals of the US Open. “I feel like 25 is when women start to hit their peak,” she says. “I try not to be too hard on myself right now, knowing that I do have a lot to look forward to.”⁠

As Coco hits her stride, she’s on a mission to keep her forbears, Black tennis pioneers like Althea Gibson, from being forgotten. “With tennis being a predominantly white sport, you don’t really see people who look like us too often,” she says.⁠
