Tongson reveals why the Carpenters’ chart-topping, seemingly white-washed musical fantasies of ‘normal love’ have profound significance for her – as well as for other people of colour, LGBT+ communities, and anyone outside the mainstream culture usually associated with Karen Carpenter’s legacy.
