Plates is a food culture magazine that seeks hyperlocal stories with a global relevance.
Straying from celebrity chef interviews, cafe listicles and restaurant reviews, Plates explores the stories of people and tradition ingrained in everyday ingredients. Our stories are inspired by unconventional travel, surprising kitchen concoctions, and unlikely relationships that often stem from the common human connection with food.
We travel along dirt roads, hike through villages and cross rivers in search of people whose livelihoods are affected (for better or for worse) by their (in)direct connection to seemingly common produce. We believe food has the potential to serve as a medium for conversation that can transcend cultural, political and language barriers.
